For Leigh McDonald (Seattle, USA 1962) a visit in 1971 to the Starbucks store in Pike Place Market was a special event. Little did she know that 20 years later she would play an instrumental roll when Starbucks made their first step in the direction of the San Francisco Bay Area, and later the world.
Leigh's great love for coffee and the special atmosphere in espressobars remained strong even after she left Starbucks. She followed a roasting course and later was taken under the wing of Alfred Peet who taught her everything he knew about coffee and mentored her for years. Alfred Peet emigrated from Holland to the US and is seen as the source of the worldwide coffee movement. In the late 1960's, from his store in Berkeley, California, Alfred inspired, then delivered coffee to, and eventually mentored the founders of Starbucks.
In 1997 Leigh pioneered the Specialty Coffee Movement in Holland and founded one of the first Dutch espresso bars in Amsterdam: Coffee Connection. During her entrepreneurial years she opened 4 stores and launched her wholesale coffee business, gaining unparalleled experience in setting up and running espressobars in the Dutch market.
Leigh is a SCAE certified jury member for Dutch Barista Championship and Latte Art Championship.

It is of great importance that a coffee program yields profits. Leigh has trained hundreds of baristas and is SCAE certified jury member for the World Barista Championship. Leigh offers a comprehensive training program to all customers, including refresher courses. Thus all personnel will be better able to preserve the quality of beverages, prevent waste and be able to handle their job as representive of the business.
